Name: Zoe Washburne, nee Alleyne (Corporal; former Independant Army)

Personality: 'Stoic' is probably Zoe's foremost attribute. It's very difficult to get Zoe to lose her cool, even in the face of violence, or maybe especially in the face of violence. She divides her loyalty to two men: her husband and her Captain. She is both more and less diplomatic than Mal, often providing perspective on the situations the crew finds themselves in, most often at the captain's behest, and generally delivering such with an air of dry humor. She can be intimidating, but around those she cares for, she can be very warm and even nurturing. She's a lioness, looking over her cubs - just be wary of her teeth and claws. The idea that she might be romantically interested in Mal both amuses and annoys her, especially since she by now means hides the fact that she is unreservedly in love with her husband.
Occupation: First Mate of Serenity, former soldier.
History: Zoe was born in the black, or 'Vesselside' as many would call it. She joined the Independents during the Unification War while serving under Malcolm and went through the hell known as the Battle of Serenity Valley with him as the two remaining members of their platoon still alive after all was said and done. She continued to serve as his 'right hand man' faithfully even after the war, and becoming his First Mate when he purchased a hunk of junk Firefly class ship he thus dubbed Serenity. Skeptical but entirely loyal, Zoe went along with it, though had her doubts when she was introduced to the new pilot, one Hoban Washburne. There's no point in saying I told you so, though; she married him, and besides, only an idiot would say 'I told you so' to a woman with her right hook and that fast a draw.
